Yes To Carrots, Maybe To Tomatoes

I've really been loving the Yes To Carrots brand lately. There are so many different little "food groups" within the brand - Yes To Tomatoes, Yes To Cucumbers, and Yes To Blueberries. I feel like they should just call themselves, Yes To [insert name of fruit or vegetable here]. Haha

The lip butters are definitely a keeper (berry is my favorite!) and the eye and face makeup remover is a possible contender for first place in my heart. What?! Something better than the MAC Cleanse Off Oil? We'll see, but for now I will just say that I like it a lot. (:

Oh, oh! The Yes To Cucumbers facial towelettes are also quite lovely as well. The best I've tried so far, and I've tried every kind of wipe out there. They leave a cool, tingly feeling on your skin and are very soothing. Two thumbs up for sure!

Now for the climax of this post - the Yes To Tomatoes Trouble-Free Facial Wash. I decided to pick this up at Target for $9.99 because it's affordable and promises to leave oily skin perfectly balanced while keeping blemishes away at the same time. Yeah yeah, we've all heard that one before!

Plus, it's paraben free, mostly natural, and contains tomatoes (obviously!), watermelon, rosemary, and dead sea minerals. That's all fine and dandy, but does it work?

Yes. I've been using this facial wash for a good six weeks now and I can confidently say it works. It does a fantastic job at controlling the oils on my face without completely stripping every last drop of moisture from my skin.

My skin loves this stuff...but my nose doesn't.

The issue I have with this product is the scent. For something that is 99.6% natural, where on earth is the awful perfume-y fragrance coming from? Maybe it's packed into that remaining 0.4% - who knows. I'm sure it's listed somewhere in the ingredients, but at this point I really don't care because knowing what it is won't make it smell any better. I'm someone who is very sensitive to scents, especially with skincare and makeup products. I don't like things with heavy fragrances because they give me a headache and irritate my skin. This face wash is probably the stinkiest I've ever used by far. Yes, stinkier than Proactiv and the Clinique Acne Solutions system - combined! It's just bad, bad, BAD.

This is where I'm torn though, because the results are so good, good, GOOD. Surprisingly, the fragrance hasn't irritated anything aside from my nose. No redness, bumps, etc. Also, the scent fades after a few hours - especially if I'm wearing makeup. I swear it stays imbedded in my hands all day though. Yuck!

I'm really not sure where I stand on this product and whether I should continue to use it or just drop it completely. What do all of you think? What would you do?

P.S. All products within the Yes To Carrots brand can be found at numerous drugstores and Target. You can click HERE for a complete list.

  1. Bummer! I would probably finish it up, then stop using. Never tried Yes To Carrots before, but sounds like a good brand!

  4. A few months ago I bought the facial starter kit from Target for oily/combination skin. It contained the Yes To Tomatoes facial wash you mentioned, a moisturizer, and a mud mask treatment. The smell didn't bother me and I loved the idea of switching to a skincare routine that was mostly natural. However, it completely destroyed my skin. It did not break me out so much as it dried out my skin completely. My skin took on a rough texture and it actually made my foundation apply badly. If the wash works well for you that's great but I would recommend Alba facial products for you to try once you run out of this!

  8. I am sensitive to scents as well, so I can understand the predicament that you are in; however, I am always trying to make my skin look as good as possible, and if face wash is really making your skin look great, I would just learn to live with the scent!

  9. does the face wash contain any sylacilic acid?

  10. I think you should stick with the face wash - I always have trouble finding a good one and this one sounds like a gem (other than scent), especially at this price! I'd try and stick it out, as awful as that may be. :S

Also - what do you use the towelettes for? As makeup remover or instead of a facial cleanser when you're in a hurry?

Thanks Ingrid! I loved this post, especially as I have been considering some of these products recently as well. :)

  15. yay new blog post! i'm happy you are getting into more natural products, i've been really into them lately. i was wondering, is the eye makeup remover like a foam? i need to get a new makeup remover soon since my neutrogena one is about to run out.

has the facial wash also helped with breakouts? i think you should stick with it if its working for you and only the smell is an issue, maybe it will grow on you. haha idk but perhaps using a scented hand sanitizer afterwards may help? :)

  16. As someone with a small bank account and oily and acne prone skin, if the product works, I'd deal with the smell. Maybe you should try washing your face with a washcloth or little scrub so the product doesn't get on your hands. Thanks for the blog, I'm gonna put that cleanser on my list of products to try!

  22. I decided to try these products after your youtube video! I'm loving the Body Butter and also decided to try the face lotion, even though it wasn't something you reviewed. After trying it I'm interested to know what your opinion of it is. For me, I find the scent slightly unpleasant and it also leaves a bit of residue on my face. However, my face has been doing really well lately and I have to credit the lotion with this. So I'm a bit torn :)

  24. the yes to tomatoes facial wash RUINED my skin. it really hurts now, even if i just wash my face with water, that makes it hurt. i may be allergic to something in it, but i had really nice skin and that facial wash completely ruined it.

  34. That stuff is soo good.

But I have a question for you and it's kinda weird but last week I went back from Florida to Holland. My friend and I had a little flight from Orlando to Atlanta. Next to me there was a woman and she really looked like you. Same face, same laugh, same voice! I was to shy to ask her but could it be your momma?! She said she went to Orlando just for work. And when I asked her if she would liked a gum, she was excited because it was her favorite taste: watermelon! I know this is sooo crazy but I really want to know it..

I'm a 16 year old girl and live in Holland. Love your blog and little movies <3
